Trans-Siberian Railway Stopover for Short Stay Travel in Mongolia

This trans-Siberian Railway stopover trip is ideal for travelers who have a short stay in Ulaanbaatar and want to experience real Mongolian herder life in the countryside and see a bit of Ulaanbaatar, the capital city as well. This leg of the trans-Siberian Railway runs from Beijing, China to Irkutsk, Russia in Siberia and Lake Baikal. Stopping in Mongolia for a few days is a refreshing way to spend some time off the train and to see one of the most fascinating countries the trans-Siberian railway passes through. It’s a must see.

Mongolian Herder Family Stay in Mongolia

Here at their family ger stay, you’ll be able to relax in a comfortable ger with a cup of milk tea, ride horses, walk in the surrounding forested hills, taste traditional Mongolian food, try out Mongolian archery and take part in real herder life. This is not a commercial ger camp, but a real herder family experience.

City Tour of Ulaanbaatar – Mongolia’s Capital

After a night or two with Yadmaa and Davasuren, we’ll transport you back to the city and guest house where you can take a tour of Ulaanbaatar, taking in the National Museum, a traditional Mongolian music concert and visit a monastery. We then get you to the train station for your departure.

We have options to arrange a first and last night’s city guesthouse stay for your arrival and departure, depending on your travel schedule. You may want to enjoy a shower and a wash of clothes, which you can do at the city guesthouse. Just let us know.

What our Guests say about their Trans-Siberian Railway stopover:

“Found this company via our guidebook as we wanted to spend 2-3 days out of Ulaanbaatar seeing rural Mongolia. We were able to make all the arrangements via email (good English) and they collected us from our guesthouse too. We stayed with a herder family in a spare ger (and had the yurt/tent all to ourselves) and enjoyed simple but authentic home-cooked food three times a day and a roaring fire both evening and morning. As part of this we added a short horse trek which was great value. Free to roam during the day which we used for our own walks nearby. Highly recommended.

Keith Burden – Wales, UK

“We met Keith in UB and he introduced us to Yadamaa and Daavasuren whom we stayed with in the countryside. The experience deepened our knowledge of Mongolia, the stark contrast to the rapid development in UB. We enjoyed the drive out with Davaa too. Basically the whole experience was simple, real and the opposite to what I suspect many other more touristy groups would organize. Yadamaa and Daavasuren are a wonderful family, warm and welcoming (and great at communicating with smiles) and we will always remember our stay fondly. Thank you!!!”

Alison Roberts  – Clonakitty, Ireland

“We did an overnight ger stay and horseback ride. We were able to easily arrange everything online. We were picked up from our hostel. We were greeted, stuffed full of good food, shown around, and tucked in for the night. The experience was a little like going camping. However, even though we went in October, the ger got downright toasty at night. We loved the horse ride. Additionally, in our regrettably short time there we were also able to milk a cow, shoot a traditional Mongolian bow and meet a variety of farm animals. Everyone we met was very kind and hospitable. Stone Horse even sent us a Christmas card this year, which we loved.”
